DEKRA Japan and Super GT: When Data Drives Performance

May 08, 2026
Motorsport represents the perfect fusion of cutting-edge technology, engineering excellence, and human performance. In Japan, this spirit is embodied by Super GT, the country’s premier sports car racing series. For DEKRA, involvement in such a high-level championship reflects not only a passion for mobility, but also a deep commitment to safety, fairness, and technical integrity across the automotive industry.
A Natural Fit: DEKRA and High-Performance Motorsport
DEKRA has built its global reputation on ensuring safety, quality, and reliability in mobility. From vehicle testing and certification to accident analysis and inspection services, DEKRA’s expertise is deeply rooted in the automotive sector. Cooperating with a technically advanced racing series like Super GT is therefore a natural extension of this mission.
Super GT represents the forefront of automotive innovation, with manufacturers continuously pushing the limits of performance, aerodynamics, and efficiency. For DEKRA, supporting this environment provides a unique opportunity to apply its knowledge in one of the most demanding testing grounds imaginable: professional motorsport.
Ensuring Safety at the Limit
Safety is paramount in any form of motorsport. While racing competitions deliver thrilling on track action, it also requires strict adherence to safety standards to protect drivers, teams, and spectators.
DEKRA’s global experience in technical vehicle inspection aligns closely with these needs. Drawing from its long-standing involvement in international racing, such as its role in technical scrutineering in other series, DEKRA contributes valuable know how to ensure that vehicles meet rigorous requirements.
International teamwork and Knowledge Transfer
DEKRA can draw on more than 35 years of experience as the official scrutineer in the premier German motorsports series DTM. All of this experience is also made available to SUPER GT, with teams in Germany and Japan conducting a constant exchange of information. On some occasions, technical experts are even dispatched to Japan to support at the racetrack.
This highlights not only the strong link between DEKRA Germany and DEKRA Japan, but also the high degree of internationalization and cooperation within the entire DEKRA organization.
Fair Competition Through Technical Excellence
Motorsport is not only about speed; it is also about fairness. In a series likeSUPER GT, where manufacturers and teams invest heavily in performance, maintaining a level playing field is essential.
For example, the “Balance of Performance” system used in the GT300 class adjusts the performance of each participating vehicle through multiple parameters, such as power output, aerodynamic performance and weight. In SUPER GT, DEKRA’s technical expertise assists in all the steps necessary to determine this balance, and safeguard it with detailed scrutineering.
The first step: Data collection. All vehicles are equipped with data logging systems that capture relevant data at a rate of more than 100 times per second, while the vehicle is on track. DEKRA provides its’ technical know-how on these systems and their set-up, allowing for reliable, precise measurements.
However, all this data is irrelevant if the information within it cannot be extracted. For this purpose, DEKRA provides its’ purpose-built motorsport data analysis software. Originally developed for use in DTM, it has been modified and customized thoroughly for SUPER GT. Used both for scrutineering and data exploration, it provides fast automated analyses for key scrutineering topics and performance metrics, with data visualizations and overviews making it easy to keep track of and compare all participating vehicles.
Strengthening DEKRA’s Presence in Japan
Japan is one of the world’s leading automotive markets, home to some of the most influential manufacturers and suppliers. DEKRA’s involvement in SUPER GT reinforces its position as a trusted partner within this industry.
Through this engagement, DEKRA:
  • Enhances its visibility among key automotive stakeholders
  • Builds relationships with manufacturers, teams, and industry partners
  • Demonstrates its commitment to supporting innovation and safety in Japan
The connection with SUPER GT highlights the organization’s core values: safety, neutrality, and technical excellence. By contributing its expertise DEKRA not only supports the integrity of the sport but also strengthens its role in shaping the future of mobility.
Motorsport may be about pushing limits, but with DEKRA involved, those limits are explored responsibly, safely, and fairly.
